It's that time of year again - spring cleaning! With warmer weather and longer days, it's the perfect time to get rid of all the dust, dirt, and clutter that has built up over the winter. To make sure you don't miss a thing, goodhouse has put together a spring-cleaning checklist. There are some tasks that often get overlooked. In this blog post, we'll discuss the important tasks that may be missing from your spring-cleaning checklists.

Deep-clean your floors and carpets

To get a truly deep clean for your carpets this spring, go beyond the standard vacuuming and spot-treating. For this, you'll need to take extra steps and use either a wet or dry method.

The wet method involves using your favorite carpet cleaner. This is a great way to remove deep dirt and stains from your carpet fibers. You can also get crafty and make your own carpet cleaner.

The dry method requires using a dry carpet cleaning powder that you sprinkle over the surface of your carpets. The powder will absorb any dirt, dust, and oils and can be vacuumed up once it has had time to work its magic.

Whichever method you choose, make sure to follow all instructions carefully and read the instructions for your carpet cleaner thoroughly before beginning. With these tips, you'll have perfectly clean carpets in no time.

Wash windows and sliding doors

A key step in any spring cleaning list is washing windows and sliding doors. Dirt and grime can easily build up on these surfaces, so giving them a good clean can really freshen up your space. To wash your windows and sliding doors, start by spraying them with a glass cleaner. Use a lint-free paper towel or microfiber cloth to wipe the glass from top to bottom. If there are any streaks left behind, give them one more wipe until the window is completely clear.

Dust light fixtures and fan blades

It's time to tackle the dusty light fixtures and fan blades as part of your spring cleaning list. First, unscrew your light fixtures from the ceiling, lamp, or base. Then dump any dust, bugs, or other dirt into the trash. Next, use a microfiber cloth or duster to clean the inside and outside of the fixture. If the fan blades have accumulated a lot of dust, use a damp rag or cloth to wipe them off. Be sure to take safety precautions when reaching up high to do this task. These tips will help ensure your light fixtures and fan blades are sparkling clean and ready for use!

Clean under furniture and appliances

Your spring cleaning list isn't complete until you've thoroughly cleaned beneath all furniture and appliances. Grime can accumulate quickly, so it's important to clean underneath couches, chairs, beds, and other furniture as well as appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. Ideally, all furniture should be moved in order to clean the area properly. If your flooring is hardwood, use felt pads to avoid scratching it while you move the furniture. Vacuum, sweep, or mop the floors and use a damp cloth to wipe away any excess debris. Don't forget to check for signs of pests, too!

Do a safety inspection

Make sure you have a smoke and carbon monoxide detector in all bedrooms and common areas. If you don't already have one in your home, add this to your spring cleaning list and get it taken care of right away. Don't forget about your fire extinguisher! They are a must-have in your home and can be a life-saving tool in the event of a fire. Be sure to check the expiration date and replace the extinguisher if needed.
